Frequently Asked Questions
What if I want my player to have a specific coach or be on a certain team?
Shaler Soccer Club does not honor requests for specific coaches or team placements to ensure fairness, balance, and inclusivity within the league. Prioritizing equitable team formation helps to:
- Promote Fair Competition: Creating balanced teams ensures a competitive and enjoyable experience for all participants, fostering development and engagement.
- Encourage Social Growth: Players are given opportunities to form new friendships and interact with diverse peers, which enhances teamwork and social skills.
- Avoid Favoritism: Upholding neutral team assignments prevents perceptions of bias or favoritism, maintaining trust and transparency within the community.
- Simplify Logistics: Accommodating specific requests can create administrative challenges, delaying team formation and potentially leading to unbalanced rosters.
By adhering to these principles, the club ensures a positive and inclusive environment for all players.
How will I know if my Play Up Request is approved?
A play-up request must be submitted alongside registration for the soccer season. The Shaler SC board will review all requests no later than the monthly meeting prior to the season start. After a vote, the registrar will notify the family of the decision. Depending on the outcome, the family can choose to proceed with team placement or cancel the registration.
What Age Group will my player be placed in?
In US Youth Soccer, players are placed on teams based on their birth year. Each "soccer year" runs from January 1 to December 31, and age groups are labeled as "U" followed by the maximum age for that group (e.g., U12 is for players 12 years old or younger).
The age groups offered by Shaler SC range from U4, U5, U6, U8, U12, then proceed with age groups more in line with school soccer i.e. middle school, Junior Varsity (JV), and Varsity.
